Hi sweetie, Im so pleased that you went to see a doctor, at least now you can be treated correctly, I hope you were given some information so that you can understand the disease better.

I am also really pleased that someone with a wider knowledge of this illness was able to post here, im sure that everything will be fine. Take care x

Tisha-1 agony auntWell, I am so happy you told your mom and had it checked out, though I am sorry to hear that you have Crohns like other people in your family. But I am proud of you for overcoming your shyness to talk with your mom. Good for you! Knowing what is going on is so much better than worrying, and I know that treatment will help manage things and keep you healthy.

All the best.

Blood in a grown up is mostly nothing but is occasionally serious. What is serious for an adult (usually over 50) is not a likely problem for a child. In a child like you the chances of it being serious are tiny!! Don't worry about what one lady has written here as she may know something about adults but not paediatrics. The reasons for your problem have a completely different profile. Adults get problems to do with wear and tear and polyps that mutate into other growths, not children.

You could have a small tear from pushing especially if you have been constipated, or a bladder infection, it could be loads of things. Whatever it is you don't need to feel ashamed. Doctors usually would asl for a stool smaple ot urine test first and blood tests after that to exclude a whole lot of reasons. I got this from a website for you:

Rectal bleeding

It is extremely common to notice a few spots of blood on the toilet paper after passing stools. If there is no blood in the toilet bowl, this is most likely to be due to minor damage to a blood vessel in the skin of the anus. If it persists, the problem requires investigation to exclude significant disease of the anus.

Blood in the toilet bowl that is separate from the faeces and is bright red is commonly due to bleeding from haemorrhoids (piles). However, this sort of bleeding cannot be distinguished from bleeding due to a rectal cancer (this is an adult disease) without further investigation.

Blood that is mixed in with the stool is more likely to have a worrying cause but benign (non-cancerous) possibilities include bleeding from diverticular disease or from colitis.

Drink lots of fluid if you are constipated but see your GP. Bets to know what it is sooner so you can prevent damage as happens in undiagnosed Crohns. Big hug, be brave and put your trust in an adult.

Definately speak to a doctor sweetie, even if you feel you cant tell your mom.

I think it would be wise to read up on the disease however from all that I have read, blood is not mentioned as a symptom of crohns disease. You have not stated where the blood comes from, obviously Crohns is related to the intestinal tract so that would indicate that the blood comes when you poo.

If it is coming from anywhere else then there are endless reasons that might explain it, you really need to see a doctor.

Tisha-1 agony auntHoney, this is very important. You must tell your mother today! Blood in your stool is potentially very serious and must be checked out by a doctor, preferably today! This is very very dangerous not to have it seen to right away....

Don't be shy, don't be embarassed, your mum loves you and it would make her very happy to know that you can talk to her about this. She will much rather want to know so she can help you.

Please do me a personal favor and talk to her today. You don't even have to talk to her, just show her the toilet after you've used it.... Please, honey, do this for me.

Uncle_Phil agony auntFor heavens sake! Tell your parents and get them to make an appointment for you to see the doctor. Sitting in front of a computer isn't going to make it any better.

It may just be piles or something, but just in case it's something that could kill you, do you not think the Doctor's is the best way to go?
