A female reader, anonymous, writes (1 July 2009):

Yes. One of the traits many sex addicts have in commen are an early exposure to and usage of pornography.

Regular usage can also lead to desensitation (what you used to view no longer turns you on) and escalation (viewing of more 'hard core' porn to reach same level of excitement).

Another reason no one under 18 is 'supposed' to view it is that you are still learning about sex and your sexuality. Porn is a poor teacher of healthy sexuality. It is confusing for young people to distinguish betweeen what is normal for couples to do and what is for entertainment purposes only.

Many men feel that they grew up with porn and it didn't hurt them...however, the amount of porn that is available now and the content of the porn is way different than what was availabe even 10 years ago. You can consider yourself part of a social experiment...

A male reader, anonymous, writes (30 June 2009):

I don't agree with harshbutfair. There's nothing wrong with liking naked women, all of us males do. All of the points he expressed are not facts, but opinions. I myself watched porn all throughout my teenage years and I've not once lost my attraction to a live naked female.

Just know that more than 90% of the male population watches porn and masturbates. So don't worry you're fine.

A male reader, harshbutfair United Kingdom +, writes (30 June 2009):

harshbutfair agony auntIs porn bad for you?

Probably, yes.

Throughout our millions of years of evolution we've been turned on by real live females.

Now we have on-demand graphic images/videos that can replace them and turn us on in different ways than nature intended.

Especially when you are young and haven't developed sexually, you are affecting how your brain views sexuality and turn-ons.

Until you are 18, you should not look at pornography. Even then you should avoid it or ration it. For under 18s, it is against the law for a good reason and it may harm your sexual development as an adult.

You may find that real women don't turn you on when the time comes.

Why not take up some hobbies, see friends, do exercise whenever you feel the urge.
