A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I had breast implants done 11yrs ago. So far my breasts are ok with minor changes. I have some rippling but nothing too major like pain etc.

I went back to my surgeon just for a check up. I was expecting him toeither say they are fine or that something is wrong and I need to have them replaced. Instead he became a complete jerk and told me I must have them changed. He said the gov't said ppl have to change umplants every 10yrs and it is possible it could have ruptured already but he does not know by just looking at them. While I was of the opinion that if it isnt broken then dont fix it. As I said, there is nothing seriously wrong with them. Even he said that by the looks and feel that he seem ok...but that he doesnt know and I should have them changed immediately anyway!

But I do not want to change them if they are still fine! I hear of wonen who have their implants for 20yrs and no issues!

But now that surgeon put tge fear of God into me that I am walking around with time bombs leaking into my lymph nodes. omeone said I can go to my own doctor and ask for a scan. Does anyone know if I can get this done for free on NHS? I was reading private clinics that said it cost £600 (for a scan I prob do not even need) Is there anyway I can get the scan free? I am not working and so broke. What can I do? Or if I act like I think there us something seriously wrong with them then is there more of a chance to get it done for free?

PS for anyone who would be saying if I have no money why would I get the surgeon to see me...I just wanted to make sure it was ok. If he had said it was bad or life threatening I would have considered a loan. But really I am unemployed and so broke.

Thanks

Pip implants or otherwise , you still have to replace them. It's been ten years- it's the rules with tit implants darling!

A male reader, no nonsense Aidan United Kingdom +, writes (24 May 2014):

If you had PIP implants, which were banned several years ago, the NHS offers removal, but not replacements of a different brand, unless they were fitted on the NHS. See this link:

http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Breast-implants/Pages/Introduction.asp

Assuming these were not PIP implants, there is no reason to assume there is cause for concern, unless you notice changes to the breast. Any change to the breast is always worth going to seek professional advice about, always! The only thing you can do is visit your GP. IF there is a problem, they will advise on what needs to happen next and refer you for any investigations that are required. Whilst it doesn’t seem that there is any evidence you have been incorrectly advised so far, I suggest you go to put your mind at rest. You can’t lose in so-doing.

I wish you all the very best.

Everyone who gets breast plants is advised that they must be changed every ten years, that's why most people hold off till they're atleast thirty so it's not so financially cutting as you'd have to replace them less times. He is right I'm afraid.
