A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm 14 and I'm in a relationship with someone a bit older than me. I love him very much and would be lost without him, but I can't help but feel really nervous and a bit awkward around him. I don't know what to do about it. Has anyone got any advice? Am I even with the right person?

As you are so young, the chance of this person being your soulmate for life is small. So it is worrying if you feel you would be lost without him - you wouldn't, you'd be just fine.

So it sounds like you should spend a bit of time by yourself making sure you build your own confidence as an individual, not just as an appendage to someone else. Particularly as he is older, you could have just swapped the support of parents for the support of an older guy. You need to find yourself as a stand alone person for a while first.

Don't worry whether he is "the one" or not - just make sure you are happy and you are growing as a person. If the awkwardness you mention makes you unhappy, then find someone that you actually enjoy being with, or just have some fun with your friends.

i also question that one! How old is he? Most guys older expect more! despite the fact that it will be extremely emothional for you if you get put through sex... even if you want it.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (1 March 2007):

When you say a bit older than you how old exactly do you mean. If you mean over 16 then make sure that they don't push you into having sex, after all it is illegal to have sex when you are under 16. Secondly if he is your first boyfriend that it'll make sense to feel slightly nervous and awkward around him as you are not used to this situation (having a relationship). If he loves you back he'll understand but if he doesn't then you are with the wrong person.
