A male United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

There was this girl that I really liked, she started flirting with me, I liked her, and we got close...however, she has moved away, and our relationship really never evolved. I want to forget about her and just move on, but I still have some feelings. I've tried looking at internet advice websites, and have done everything...removed all things that remind me of her, try to get busy, etc, but I still have some feelings for her.

About how long does it take to forget about someone, I knew her for about 3 months? Is there anyway to speed it up (the last time I got close to a girl, it took me about half a year to forget).

A female reader, anonymous, writes (30 September 2008):

hey. well i am currently and nearly there getting over my ex. i think its the hardest thing to do, so i sympathise. its so hard because no one can really help you but yourself. no matter how much advice you get from other places and ppl. i did the same as you, kept myself busy, removed things and avoided things that would remind me of him. there is no time limit, but time itself helps alot, and each day, slowly things got better, and feelings so start to calm and stop feeling as raw.

i found that i had to make a concious effort to actually forget him. as hard as that was, as a part of me did not want to let him go. but i realised that its not healthy holding onto someomne that isnt going to be in my life. yes, you may still have feelings for her for a while but soon enough they will settle and not be as strong because you realise you have no other option but to keep going and live your life without that person. trust in the fact that you will be okay. x
