It may sound harsh, but the best way to burn out those unwanted feelings would probably be to take an extended break from him. If he's your best friend AND you're madly in love with him, I'm guessing you guys spend a lot of time together. This kind of exposure only makes you like him more and additionally keeps you away from other, potentially-interested-in-reciprocating-your-love men. I'm not suggesting you flee the country or anything, just plan on doing things without him for the next while. If you guys are great pals, you can easily pick up your friendship again once you've worked him out of your system.
